can vfxing become a term

i feel like what i do on social media isn't quite animation — at least not in the way you'd think of animation, like pixar or spongebob or whatever. but it's also definitely not just video editing, because there is so much more going on than that.

i guess it's some weird combination of video editing, animation, motion graphics, and vfx, but then all of that gets mashed together into these tiny little stories made specifically for social media. honestly, i think it needs a new term because every time someone asks what i do, i end up giving them a 4-minute explanation that somehow makes it sound even more confusing.

i've just started calling it vfxing but that's simply not a term but whatever.

and now i've been singing more, so naturally i've added live looping, audio recording, and mastering to the mix. because apparently having a reasonable number of hobbies was never an option for me. can i please just do one thing. no? okay.

anyways... i looped the ending of wildflower by billie eilish and made a little scrapbook-y animation to go with it!

i really wanted to make a river of dried wildflowers — almost like pressed flowers flowing like water — and have little motifs from the song float past me in a tiny paper boat while i sang. basically, i wanted to make a tiny little world out of the song and then throw myself into it.

honestly, i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. and it somehow already hit 30k views, which is very cool and very fun and definitely not something i'm going to refresh every 12 minutes.

one of my favorite things about making this account and this blog is that i can just... practice. i get to make things because i want to make them, try weird ideas, learn new skills, completely overcomplicate projects that probably could have been much simpler, and then do it all over again.

i can genuinely feel myself getting better with every project, and i can actually see it too. that's probably the most fulfilling part of all of this — slowly building this weird little collection of things i've made and realizing that, oh, maybe i actually am getting somewhere.
