green IS a creative color

i grew up in the era of DHMIS, FNAF, and a bunch of other internet things that probably changed me a lot lol.

one line that has apparently been living rent free in my head for over a decade is "green is not a creative color."

the problem is that i now work with green constantly.

green graphics. green assets. green screen footage. every time i open a project with something green in it, that little yellow guy materializes in my brain and starts singing.

so this project was basically inevitable.

i don't have a ton of deep thoughts about the actual build process. thankfully the DHMIS style is mostly simple 3d objects, so it came together pretty quickly in after effects. the hardest part was figuring out the checkerboard cube tile flips, but once i got the first few working it became a lot of copy, paste, and pretending i had planned everything from the start.

honestly my favorite part has been reading the comments. there's something really fun about discovering thousands of strangers share the exact same niche childhood memories. i post one weird little vfx scene and suddenly everyone is collectively hearing the same song in their head.

the internet can be a nightmare sometimes, but shared childhood trauma is beautiful. 🥹
